Dust soiling meter
For the determination of nuisance dust soiling in deposition and flux (wind blown) dust collected onto prepared sheets or pads. To identify problem areas economically due to there being no limit in the number of pads exposed.

• Measured Technology: Reflectometer
• Measured Components: dust soiling in deposition and flux
• Measuring Range: 0 to 100 %EAC/day
• Power Requirements: 240v ac
Benefits:
• Sticky pad method of assessing dust nuisance is cheap, easy and quick to use*
• Large numbers of stations can be serviced cheaply.
• Deposition and/or flux can be investigated
• Smoke Stain filters can be assessed**
• Linear relationship between reflected light energy and meter reading
• Simple two-point calibration, either to emulate other reflectometers or to user’s own requirements
• Concealed screwdriver adjustment of zero and calibration to avoid accidental alteration of settings
• Very low power consumption (< 2 Watts) to avoid thermal drift problems
• Stable digital read-out, not requiring frequent recalibration
• Matt black anodized finish to minimize internal reflection
• Computer-designed illumination system to ensure spatially uniform illumination of the sample, using lamps with expected life of 5000 hours
• Spare parts and repairs available
Opertaing the sticky pad reader:

The sticky pad reader consists of a matt black anodized cylinder approximately 65mm dia x 120mm high, and a locating mask. The cylinder contains the optical system and electronics, including the display, calibration and zeroing devices. Regulated power is fed to the device by a 13-amp plugtop power supply which requires a normal 230-240v 50Hz AC supply.
The sticky pad under test is illuminated by three tungsten filament bulbs, near the lower end of the cylinder, spaced in such a way as to give a uniform brightness across the entire sample, although the photodiode which is used to measure the degradation of the sticky pad is constrained to view a circular disc of 6mm diameter in the centre of the illuminated area. In accordance with similar instruments, the reading on the display is set to 100 when the pad is clean, and decreases as the dust loading increases. As the device is linear, a simple two point calibration is all that is needed before putting the instrument to work. A reading is then taken simply by placing the mask on the desired part of the sticky pad, putting the instrument on the mask and noting the meter reading.
